Leon is a qualified chemical engineer. For the last 20 years he has been employed within the Anglo American plc stable, of which 16 years were spent at Anglo Platinum. His last position was Head of Process Control and Instrumentation, where he defined and managed the automation and process control strategy for Anglo Platinum. The programme has established itself as a recognised world leader in its field. He is also a member of the Executive Process Committee, the Research and Development Council, and advisor to the asset optimisation initiative at Anglo Platinum. Throughout his career, he has managed both technical and production units of large operations, including both platinum concentrators and smelters, and was selected to partake in Anglo American’s global leadership programme. He is a member of the advisory board of the process engineering faculties at both the University of Pretoria and the University of Stellenbosch and is also an executive member of the South African Council for Automation and Control.
David has a BSc (Special) Honours degree in Geology, a Certificate in Financial Management and has completed strategic and advanced management programmes. He is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the South African Geological Society, and is a Senior Affiliate of the Australasian Securities Institute. His strong technical background is complemented by financial qualifications. He has had an international career as a geologist, specifically in PGM, nickel and gold, and is a rated mining investment analyst. He has held senior management and board positions for ASX- and VSE-listed companies and has over 27 years’ experience in the global mining and resource financing sectors.
David holds an Honors degree in Metallurgy from the University of Newcastle and a Master of Business Administration from ECU in Western Australia. He was previously Marketing Manager and Chief China Representative at Portman Limited. He worked for 25 years with BHP Billiton in senior market development and management roles. David has broad experience in international marketing and business development across many commodities and technologies.
He is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the American Association of Iron and Steel, the South East Asia Iron and Steel Society and has been a previous Chairman of Standards Australia Technical Committees.
Richard holds a National Diploma in Extraction Metallurgy from the Technikon Witwatersrand and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Africa. He was previously Regional Advisor Metallurgy for the Western Mines Division of Anglo Platinum and Manager Metallurgy at Rustenburg Platinum Mines-Union Section. He worked for Anglo Platinum for over 25 years in senior management roles. He is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
Malcolm graduated in 1980 from Wits University with a BSc. Mining Engineering degree. Malcolm also successfully completed the Mine Manager’s Certificate (1985), Management Development Programme (UNISA, 1991) and the Executive Management Programme (UCT, 2000). Malcolm is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a professional engineer, member of the Association of Mine Managers of South Africa and fellow of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Malcolm has 24 years experience in hard rock mining, including operations, planning, projects and senior management, with JCI and De Beers. Malcolm’s experience includes narrow reef deep level gold and platinum mining, some open pit and underground massive mining techniques in the diamond industry, as well as consulting and feasibility study experience.
Mr King is a Metallurgist with fifteen years experience in process design, technology and project development with particular expertise in hydrometallurgy including bacterial oxidation, pressure oxidative leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning.
Previous employment in the position of Process/Project Manager included construction management, training, commissioning and operation of a complex hydrometallurgical demonstration plant in Botswana for Norilsk Nickel (formally Western Minerals Technology Pty Ltd). This project was the recipient of the category and overall winner of the West Australian Engineering Excellence Awards in 2004.
Mr. King has worked as Process Engineer to a number of major EPCM engineering consultancies in Perth, Australia, most recently in the position of Principle Process Engineer for Proteus Engineers. Process engineering experience includes technical evaluation of new technologies, computer modelling of complex metallurgical circuits using the MetSim® software, design and execution of bench and pilot scale metallurgical testwork programs together with data interpretation and reporting; process development.
Tony has over 40 year’s commissioning and operations experience in the Mineral Processing Industry gained in Africa, Middle East, China and Australia. This experience covers a wide range of processes including copper, gold, nickel, diamonds and mineral sands.
He has held senior metallurgical and management positions in a number of high profile and world respected mining houses including WMC Resources, Iluka Resources and more recently IAMGOLD Corporation.
Peter holds a Diploma in Analytical Chemistry from Wits and a Bachelor of Science Degree from UNISA. He is a Member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He has held laboratory management positions at Anglo Platinum and BHP Hartley Platinum before becoming the Business Area Manager for Anglo Platinum Base Metals Refiners.
Jakobus is an Extraction Metallurgist having qualified at the Vaal Triangle Technical Technicon with a Higher National Diploma in 1981. He also did a Leadership Development course through UNISA. He is a member of the Mining and Metallurgical Association of South Africa as well as the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Most recently, he was the Metallurgical Manager at Anglo Platinum’s Rustenburg operations. He has previously held Senior Management positions with Lebowa Platinum Mines as well as the Iscor Lead and Zinc mine in Namibia.
Dr. Cramer is a qualified Chemical and Metallurgical Engineer (BSc Metallurgical Eng., MSc and PhD in Chemical Eng., BA Economics & Philosophy) registered as a Professional Engineer in South Africa.
He has worked for more than 30 years in all aspects of the South African platinum industry principally in Production Management but also in Strategic Management. He has managed concentrators, smelters and refineries for Anglo Platinum. In addition he has worked for Kennecott Copper in the USA and for gold and antimony metallurgical businesses in South Africa.
A Past President of the SA Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Dr. Cramer continues to consult to the SA mining companies.
Grenvil is a Chartered Engineer (UK) and Professional Engineer (University of Cape Town, 1970, South Africa) with an Honors degree in Chemical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers in the UK , a member of the SA Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, SA Institute of Chemical Engineers and American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME,TMS).
He has held various positions over 22 years at Impala Platinum Refineries, and brief periods at SRK and Hatch. In 2000 he established his own Consulting Company, Hydromet (Pty) Limited in South Africa.
He has 18 years experience in pressure hydrometallurgical operations and base metal and PGM recovery. He has 20 years experience in project engineering and project management.
